We are pleased to be offering today this beautiful original finish heavily carved burl walnut slant top davenport shipmasters desk that dates from the 1870s era.  It came right out of an estate from the Cape in Mass.  The backsplash on the gallery is outstanding .  It has a shapely large burl walnut panel underneath the shelf.  The top shelf has hand carved crest, incise carving, burl panels and a great looking lion head in the center with the gallery wings on the side intact and is all held up by carved dainty column posts.  The slant top lid opens up to reveal a cubby hole interior.  We have polished it up and replaced the poor felt.  We put solid black walnut reproduction escutcheons on the desk as they were missing on the locks, but you would never know without me telling you and they look great on the picture frame molded hand cut dove tail drawers on the side.  The desk has a slant top lid with a multiple bevel edge, carved columns with burl panels with diamond block feet, burl fancy cut out panels in the base, incise carved crest, picture molded hand cut dove tail drawers and so much more.  The overall size is 26.5 inches wide, 24 inches deep, 31 inches high to the slant top front, 33 inches high to the back of the writing surface and 52 inches high to the top of the gallery.  The gallery itself is 19.5 inches high.  It is a great looking desk from the civil war era in original finish.  Shipping starts at $245 for a driveway delivery in our normal area which is New England.  Please contact us prior to purchase with your zip code to confirm what it would cost you if outside of New England for shipping.
