

We are pleased to be offering today this beautiful right out of a home original finish broken arch grandfather bonnet top carved mahogany tall clock that dates from the late 1800s to the early 1900s. It was made by the William Gilbert Clock Company out of Connecticut as marked on the brass movement. Their clocks are known for quality of workmanship and manufacturing and for impressive size and dimensions of the case. This example has a beautiful carved modeled crest on the bonnet with urn form finials and is carved with swags and leaf tips. It has an 8 day brass movement. It is weight driven by two weights with a pendulum. The brass face is embossed with nicely carved scrolling. The silver dial has Arabic numbers. The long case has a door with a glass panel to see the movement of the pendulum with brass bob and weights. The glass panel is surrounded with a wonderful border and a carved bellflower at the peak. The case is in a dark original mahogany stain finish. The sides are all panel with a gadroon edge molding. It has fleur-de-lis carving throughout. The clock is finished off with a detail claw foot. You are getting a great clock movement and one heck of a case. We sell all clocks with an understanding that they should be cleaned and serviced by a professional to make sure they run properly. This beautiful clock came right out of a home in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. We have the province from the private home. The size of the clock is 28 inches wide, 17 inches deep and 103 inches high. The brass movement is in very nice condition. It has been cleaned and maintained, but should still be set up by a professional. but we always recommend that this type of clock is professionally serviced by an expert, We use a man on the coast of Maine (Ed Openshaw) and we can get a price for his services if desired. The mahogany case also retains the original surface with a dark rich patina. There are some minor losses to the tips of the tops on the case.
