

We have a PHENOMENAL & EXTRAORDINARILY ELABORATE HORNER MAHOGANY GRANDFATHER CLOCK listed today. This is truly a spectacular carved mahogany grandfather clock from the late 19th century (1880's era). It is attributed to the renowned furniture maker R.J. Horner. Robert J. Horner was established in 1886 in lower Manhattan, N.Y. They were renown and identified by their incredible quality, there tremendous attention to detail and their lavish carvings. Their craftsmanship, quality of wood and spectacular creativity are easily identified and sets them apart from all other furniture companies of the period. This tubular clock has nine tubes and an 8-day weight driven movement which has Whittington and Westminster chimes. This phenomenal Victorian Tour de Force features a bonnet ornamented with a full relief winged cherub head at the crest with elaborate foliate and scrolled ornamentation and decoration. The upper portion of the case near the bonnet features two voluptuous bare breasted relief carved maidens. The glass door with mahogany framework reveals nine beautiful platinum colored tubes and three heavy brass weights. The clock is fitted with a pendulum which consists of a large brass covered bob. The lower portion of the case is carved with relief Victorian maiden head with much ornamentation. The clock rests on detailed carved paw feet. The dial has a sun and moon phase, and also has filigreed gold ornamentation and brass colored numerals with a platinum colored background. The hands are elaborate scrolled black metal. Horner’s cabinet works were much in demand by some of the wealthiest people of the time and exceptional examples such as this clock can create a stunning presence. CONDITION: The clock is in working condition and keeps good time but we sell all clocks with the understanding they should be cleaned and serviced upon delivery to run correctly. . Both wood and metal all appear to be in outstanding well preserved condition. There is a miniscule chip off one of the carved paw feet. The case has a wonderful polished finish and appears to have original, old patina. Complete with keys. This is truly an astounding clock and will make a notable impact on anyone in its presence.
