EXTRAORDINARY CARVED OAK BOWFRONT CHINA CABINET ATTRIBUTED TO R.J. HORNER being offered today that dates from the 1890's era. Robert J. Horner company was established in 1886 in lower Manhattan, N.Y. They were renown and identified by their incredible quality, there tremendous attention to detail and their lavish carvings. Their craftsmanship, quality of wood and spectacular creativity are easily identified and sets them apart from all other furniture companies of the period. This is an impressive quartered oak cabinet carved with bearded figures entering a pair of bowfront glass doors beneath a mold crest with gadrooned carving above a frieze embellished with opposing carved griffins centering a floral filled classical urn trailing floral spray. The frieze is flanked by lion's masks. The cabinet is mirror-backed, and is mounted with clear plate glass display shelves. The case sides with clear glass panels. The cabinet is raised on three heavily carved claw feet; each with a carved mystical masque at the center. This example is a truly excellent work of R.J. Horner craftsmanship. SIZE is 73" h x 53-3/4" w x 16" d. CONDITION: The cabinet is all original with the exception of one replaced curve glass door panel. All finished surfaces appear original with fine dark patina.
