We are pleased to be offering today this beautiful flame mahogany abante desk tall chest that dates from the 1850s to 1860s. It is known to the antique world as Biedermeier furniture that is usually of Austrian or German descent. It always amazes me how nice the quality of these pieces are from overseas because of the age. This one was purchased out of a home in Connecticut. These were very expensive back in the day, the price has come down but the quality hasn’t. It has a beautiful flame mahogany veneer face on the drawers, drop down lid and on the top box drawer. It has plank sides, scroll cabriole feet and carved columns. When the original key to unlock the drop-down lid, it exposes a gorgeous rosewood maple inlaid drawers. They are all hand cut dove tail. It is amazing the condition of the interior rosewood construction with ebony pillars. The outside finish is a brown mahogany stain, which could be misconstrued as burl, but it is flame mahogany in a brown mahogany stain finish. The pictures will do this justice. The condition is great for the age. There is the traditional crack on the top that you can only see from a step ladder. The overall size is 42 inches wide, 22 inches deep, 60 inches high to the case and 69 inches high to the top box. The size of the box on top is 24 inches wide by 17 inches deep and 8.5 inches high. If you decide to remove the box, you would see peg holes and it is unfinished underneath. It comes with the original keys. It is missing two keyhole escutcheons. Overall condition is good.
