This beautiful Antique mahogany desk features a multi-drawer with heavily carved ball and claw feet, with tons of carved lion faces wrapped around the entire Victorian desk. Dating from the 1880s to 1890s, this antique desk reminds me of some of the Horner furniture I sell. When this desk came in, the finish was scratchy. But we sanded it down and re-stained it in a medium mahogany stain finish. This really brought out the carvings and workmanship in this desk. This antique desk has two large dovetail drawers that run across the top, two small on one side, two small on the other side and rests upon a cabriole leg. The opposite looks the same, but there are no drawers. There are 8 carved faces on one side. The top has a wide ogee bevel edge. It has been re-sprayed with multiple coats of satin sheen lacquer. The inside of the drawers were not touched; they look like the old piano finish from the 1880s. The overall size is 54 inches wide, 34 inches deep and 31 inches high. The size between the drawers where your legs go are 20 inches wide and 24 inches high. The last desk we sold in this style was to a gentleman who was long legged and asked us to put spacers under the feet to accommodate his needs. It worked out well. We sell this style of desk probably 3 or 4 times a year. I tried to buy one at an auction a week ago and it brought close to $6500. This one we got for less, so we sell it for less -- that’s our policy! This antique Horner style desk is all set to go into the home with all these beautiful carvings.
