Dating from the 3rd Quarter, 19th century, this piece is American, and is an open arm example with a pierce-carved leafy crest flanked by scrolled volutes above the molded curved crest rail, and is joined to molded stiles centering an upholstered tufted back panel. The curved arms with padded arm rests and scrolled hand grips are raised on in-curved supports centering the round upholstered seat. This attractive piece is all in a green damask decorated in a shell design embellished with spiral twist cord trim in burgundy, dark blue and cream. The chair frame is raised on spool turned tapering cylindrical front legs and backswept rear legs terminating in original porcelain casters. PROVENANCE: From the personal collection of a prominent Stowe, VT entrepreneur. SIZE: 43” h x 26” w x 28” d. 16” seat height. 24” height at arms.
