This is a striking antique oak Morris chair from the early 20th century (1910's), designed for both comfort and decorative appeal. With its deeply grained tigersawn oak frame, hand-carved scrollwork, and original recline mechanism, this piece embodies the strong, practical craftsmanship of the Arts & Crafts and late Victorian crossover era.

Features:
• Solid tigersawn oak frame with bold striping and a warm, rich patina
• Adjustable reclining back with original cast iron side mechanism (fully functional)
• Four spindle side supports beneath each arm
• Front apron and legs feature scrolled acanthus leaf carving and punch-carved circular motifs
• Wide scooped arms, softened and smoothed from generations of use
• Gently curved rear legs and original casters (chair rolls pretty smoothly!)
• Thick removable seat and back cushions in a light brown fabric. These either need to be restuffed or completely reupholstered, though I personally think the fabric is useable, everyone’s definition of that is different. Please see note on fabric below.

Dimensions:
• Width (at widest point): 34 inches
• Depth (fully reclined): 45 inches
• Height to wood frame back: 38 inches
• Height to cushion back (upright): approx. 45 inches
• Seat Height (to wooden frame): 13 inches
• Seat Height (with cushion): approx. 18 inches

Condition Notes:

This Morris chair is structurally solid and in very good condition for its age, showing only minor cosmetic wear typical of antique use. Specific notes include:
• Normal wear on arms, with softened edges and minor finish wear from use
• Small nicks and dings throughout consistent with age
• Upholstered cushions are clean and usable, but the rear ties are fraying
• The cushion filling is meh and will benefit from restuffing or replacement, depending on your preferences
• When the seat cushion is lifted, the structure underneath has been reinforced with plywood. This is not visible when the cushion is in place and adds to the chair’s overall sturdiness
• Normal nicks and dings that come with age

UPHOLSTERY: At Maine Antique Furniture, we do our best to describe the fabric on our antiques as accurately as possible. We do not guarantee the condition or longevity of any upholstery and recommend that you plan to reupholster the fabric on any items. If you decide to keep any upholstery, we always recommend having it cleaned before using.

As with all antique upholstered pieces, we do not guarantee the fabric or cushion condition and recommend having them cleaned—or reupholstered—for long-term use.

This beautiful reclining Morris chair offers the best of both worlds: antique character and practical comfort. A perfect fit for a cozy library corner, reading nook, or office.
