SOLD Victorian Flame Mahogany Empire Carved Card Table
We are pleased to be offering today this French empire flame mahogany wonderfully carved flip top game table that dates from the 1860s era. It is a gorgeous piece that came off the cape of Massachusetts. It has an old finish and I am guessing it was French polished a few years ago. When the two back legs are pulled out and flip the table top it becomes a felt lined center table that can be used for game, dining or a lovely accent piece. The great thing about game tables is that you are getting three pieces of furniture at once. You can leave it closed up and use it as a hall table, you can flip the top up against a wall and use it as a display piece for a bust, leaded lamp or vase of flowers. Finally you can pull out the legs and flip the top to create a lovely game table, dinette table or poker table. It has a beautiful serpentine shapely top with flame mahogany veneer. You can see the stretch marks are starting to show after all these years. It has cabriole legs, applied carving all the way around and all elbows on the legs have a floral design. The overall size is 33.5 inches wide, 17 inches deep and 29 inches high. When the table top is opened it becomes approximately a 34 inch square table top.
