SOLD Unusual & Rare Oak Wing Back Throne Chairs - Carved Figural Details

These antique wing back throne chairs are unbelievably spectacular. In all our 55 years in the antique business, we’ve never seen anything like these chairs, and we’re really excited to have them now. The best thing to do is head straight to the pictures and check out all the detailed carvings.

These antique throne chairs are from the 1880s and are very heavy, solid tigers sawn oak. They’re most likely European in origin, but they are such high-quality, they really look American. Barley twist legs, carved skirts, mortise and tenon construction, and some truly impressive pictorial carvings on the wing backs. These chairs are extremely heavy and remain in great condition. The only real flaws we see is with the leather on the seats and arms, it’s very old and cracking; HOWEVER, aesthetically it’s on point, and completely gorgeous. So take a look at the photos and decide if it’s an issue for you. It for sure wouldn’t be an issue for us, but we won’t judge if you have it replaced :) The seats also have a crack in the oak, but nothing structural, and again, not a deal breaker for us.

Measuring 28” at the widest point, 27” deep, 61” tall, 19” to the seat, and 28” to the arm.

One chair depicts a king standing with a sword in an archway under what appears to be carvings of two unicorns flanking a coat of arms with a lion in the center. Between the two unicorns is some sort of gargoyle creature holding up a banner that says IN DEFENSE.

The second chair has another king standing with a shield in his hand, and above that is a lion and a unicorn flanking a coat of arms with a dragon on it.

Each chair is heavily carved and we notice something new every time we look at them. We cannot say enough nice things about these chairs. Head to the pictures to see for yourself! You are buying the two chairs for one money!!
