This marvelous Antique Cylinder Secretary Desk is right out of a mid-coast estate, and features original finish, Victorian burl walnut, and is carved with burl pillars. This antique cylinder secretary dates from the early 1880s, and is in wonderful original condition. It is all intact with two adjustable shelves, original wavy glass, double burl panel cylinder, burl trim coming down both sides, burl pillars coming down from the bookcase top, carved flowers with incise carvings, drawers underneath with a flower shape carving and all the hardware is intact. We did replace the two wooden knobs on the cylinder as they were missing. When the heavy cylinder roll is opened, it reveals what appears to be the original felt. This desk was not used frequently. The double burl cylinder, heavy quality and bird’s eye maple secondary wood are all signs of high quality. We carry cylinder secretary desks frequently and this one is high quality. It has bird’s eye maple drawers on the inside with the original hardware. The drawers are all round dowel dove tail that dates back to the 1870s to 1880s. All the drawers are in good condition. The overall size is 44 inches wide, 24 inches deep, 31.5 inches high to the writing surface and 89 inches high overall. The bookcase section is 12 inches deep with the two shelves being 10 inches deep. Shipping starts at $385 for a driveway delivery in our normal New England delivery area.
