SOLD Antique Secretary Desk, Antique Victorian Burl Walnut Cylinder Secretary Desk – Unusual Example

We are pleased to be offering this Victorian cylinder secretary desk to you today. Dating from the 1880s in original finish, I have never seen this particular model in the 50 years of being an antique dealer. I'm particularly impressed with the burl walnut all over the cabinet, and making this most unique is the burl panels in the top section instead of glass. It has burl pillars flanking each side, burl panel doors, and burl panel drawers. Burl for days!

It is extra wide and features a stick and ball spindle gallery, and incise carving; it is a truly unique desk. The overall size is 44 inches wide, 22 inches deep, 30 inches high to the pull-out writing surface and the overall height is 92 inches high.

It has three adjustable shelves in the large bookcase top. The doors are each 20 inches wide. The burl cylinder opens to reveal a cubby hole interior with a pull-out writing surface that has a brown vinyl insert in. We had to repair on a piece of the burl at the top of the crown. It does not have a key. It is missing 3 keyhole escutcheons and there is a small chip on the drawer under the writing surface. If you remind as at the time of the sale we will see if we have the keyhole escutcheons in stock to replace them for you.

When the door is open it reveals a divided section for storage. The drawer retains the original hardware. The top doors open to reveal an adjustable shelf interior.
