SOLD Antique Acanthus Carved Extra Tall Pineapple Poster Bed
We are pleased to be offering today this wonderful high quality solid mahogany super tall heavily carved acanthus poster bed that dates from the 1890s. The tag says it was sold by the Potthast Brothers Inc. Est. 1892 in Baltimore, MD. They were clearly high-quality furniture by looking at this super tall poster bed. The finish is beautiful with a high shield. The center finial is a work of art with a crown molded rosette top. It has bolt on rails with dark mahogany finish. The bed is all set for a modern-day box spring and mattress with the metal brackets on the bolt on rails which makes the bed tight and sturdy. It has the covers on the front to cover the bolts.
The inside dimensions for mattress purposes is 55 inches wide by 74.5-75 inches long. The outside dimensions 60 inches wide, 24 inches high to the footboard board, 16 inches high under the footboard for storage purposes, 87 inches high to the fancy pineapple top, 62 inches high from the headboard shield to the pineapple finial. This bed has carvings of flowers in the centers, acanthus carving up to the pineapple tops and I hope the pictures show the amazing detail. Even the bottom legs are carved, which is unique.
