We are pleased to be offering this original condition solid black walnut Civil War era Victorian marble top bedroom set to you today. This particular set consists of a beautiful carved bed with racetrack molding. The bed is close to being full size being 54 inches wide and 74 inches long, but with the curved footboard a 75 inch box spring usually fits. So, we are comfortable calling it a full size frame. The set also includes a three drawer dresser that has hand carved dresser pulls, and a secret drawer on the base to make a total of four drawers. Also featuring marble top with ditty boxes and a wonderful etagere type carved mirror back. Then it has the washstand or commode, as they call it. Everything in the set is wonderful original condition. The only thing I can see wrong is a chip on the marble backsplash where it wasn’t tight when it was moved. This set was in New Hampshire its entire life and we were fortunate to be able to get this along with many other beautiful items out of this estate. The bed has a big clam shell carved crest with an egg carved on the top and below it is a hand carved nuts, berries, and leaves and below that is a racetrack with a teacup circle in the center. The same style is on the footboard with a high-top edge and dome top double molded crest on the foot rail. The overall size on the outside is 58 inches wide, 72 inches high with the original castors and 41 inches high on the footboard.
The next item is the marble top dresser that is 40 inches wide, 19 inches deep, 33 inches high to the marble and 84 inches high overall. It is a beautiful mirror right down to the threaded wooden dowels that hold the mirror into the wonderful carved frame. It has the hidden drawer on the base. Every drawer is hand cut dove tail, keyhole covers are intact, and it has racetrack molding.
Finally, is the marble top commode. It has hand carved fruit and berry pulls, racetrack molding, tombstone molding on the panel doors, white and gray grained ogee bevel edge top. The overall size is 33 inches wide, 19 inches deep, 32 inches high to the marble top and 38 inches high to the marble top backsplash.
The suite dates from the Civil War era of the 1860s to 1870s. Yankees back in the day cherished and took care of their furniture. This would be a great candidate for a French polish to bring out the grains. Shipping starts at $585 for a driveway delivery in our normal New England delivery area.
