We are pleased to be offering today this wonderful civil war era Victorian hand carved floral design sofa that dates from the 1860s era. It is a great sofa that appears to be in original condition, even the fabric that is an antique wine color crush velour with a buttoned and pleated back. The fabric is in good usable condition with the exception of the gimp here and there that is worn. There are no rips or tears. The frame is solid walnut. The seams on the trim on the back of the sofa have cracked as people often move them holding onto the trim. This is very common in this style of sofa. I assume that the buyer of the sofa will have it reupholstered as it is getting tougher to find them with the hand carved crest and at that time, it is very simple to re-glue the seams. There is a small fleck of wood that is loose but is there. It is a lovely sofa with roses carved in the back of the hand carved crest. There is a carving in the multiple carved serpentine skirt and big bold knuckles that go down into a carved cabriole leg. The overall size is 61 inches wide at the widest point, 47 inches wide between the arms, 38 inches high to the carved crest, 22 inches high to the arm, 15 inches high to the seat and approximately 26 inches deep. Other than the two seams on the back, you basically have a beautiful sofa. The rest of it appears to be in all good shape. I just found the chunk of wood that was missing, so you will have a great frame to re-glue and start reupholstering. Shipping starts at $395 for a delivery in our normal area.
