We are pleased to offer this period acanthus carved claw foot flame mahogany empire lingerie chest to you today. It is very unusual for its age, and is essentially a miniature tall chest, and we were lucky enough to find it in a beautiful house here in Maine. This diminutive dresser dates from the 1850s era and maintains its original finish, and is in GREAT condition for being over 150 years old. We love the acanthus carved posts down into the carved paws - this antique dresser is more of a Philadelphia Empire piece than a country Empire piece, but has a touch of crossover. Featuring Chippendale solid brass hardware, the posts are 2.25 inches wide on the brass handles. It has the original key hole escutcheons, four straight flame mahogany hand cut dovetail drawers on the base, and on the top is a rolled drawer (also with handcut dovetails).
Condition of course shows minor nicks and scratches due to the sheer age, but we are telling you, this is a stunning little dresser or chest of drawers. On the very edge there is a short piece of ¾ inch wide piece of veneer missing -- we can color it in with mahogany veneer, but please remind us to do so at the time of sale.
This is a great looking dresser measuring 26 inches wide, 23 inches deep and 49 inches high. Shipping starts at $285 for a driveway delivery in our normal area which is New England. Outside New England it will change, so please contact us prior to purchase with your zip code to obtain a quote for outside of New England for shipping.
