SOLD Carved Unusual Walnut Decorator Chair

We are pleased to be offering today a chair that I can not believe the condition of as it is old, fragile and stylish.  It is constructed out of solid walnut.  It had to have been made by some really high end furniture maker like Wallace Nutting.  It has an old paper label underneath, but I can’t  make out the name of the sale, but it is from the 1880s era by the writing.  It is very well constructed. It is all solid black walnut.  The turnings are superb.  The design and style are perfect.  The back left hand corner of the seat has a chip of wood out, but there is no damage any where near it.  The only thing I can think of is that someone sat down to hard in it and pulled the glue joint out.  Other than that there are no breaks.  It is a circle back with a circle free standing wood insert in the center that is only held together by the cane.  I have never seen a style like this and cannot believe it is in great shape and never was broken!! .  The finish is time worn.  It is just beautiful.  I have seen tons of antiques in my 50 years in the business, but this has me mystified on who made it and what it is.  The overall size is 24 inches wide, 21 inches deep, 40 inches high to the back, 27 inches high to the arm and 17 inches high to the seat.  The cane in the back is 18 inches circular.  The wood in the middle is all pierce carved is an 8 inch circle.  If you want a decorator piece that has charm and bragging rights then this is it.  Shipping starts at $245 for a driveway delivery in our normal area which is New England.  Please contact us prior to purchase with your zip code to confirm what it would cost you if outside of New England for shipping.
