You won’t easily find this incredible set of 20 Gardner press back chairs anywhere else, but we’ve got them for you. This is a gorgeous and very unusual find in the antique world. A set of up to20 -- yes, ---TWENTY -- matching turn of the century, early 1900s, press back, oak back, spindle back, solid seat dining chairs that came out of the Massachusetts, area, where these chairs were well-known and made right in Gardner, Mass. These particular press back chairs are known in the trade as Gardner press backs. We keep this style of chair in stock at all times and sell them as a pair or as many as a set of 20 chairs all at once!!!! They have been brought in to our shop completely stripped of any old finishes, completely knocked apart and re-glued, seats all re-glued, backs and spindles all checked to make sure they are matching and all original. Then we hand-sanded, patiently, spindle by spindle, chair by chair, and applied a beautiful dark oak rich-looking oil-based stain, and then applied multiple coats of hand-rubbed lacquer and sealers. Using this seven-step process, for which most shops charge between $150 and $200 per chair, we have completed the entire set of 20 chairs. They are wonderful, with the most unusual back posts being part of the hip rest, a steam bent post that comes down and attaches right to the solid wood seat. The backs are all deep dish carved with the grape and leaf cable design that is very deep and looks gorgeous on the tiger-sawn oak back. The turnings and posts and seats are all maple, which is factory original, and the multi-turn front legs and cross spindles are also hardwood or maple. They are finished in a beautiful medium rub lacquer. The look is just fantastic. These chairs will match teak, walnut, oak or even cherry or maple tables just perfectly. The overall size of each chair is 17 inches wide, 16 inches deep on the seat, 38 inches high to top of the press back, and 18.5 inches to the seat. You are welcomed to purchase as little as 2 matching chairs up to as many as 20 matching if in stock at time of notice. Let us know, they are priced all restored at $249.00 each. You’d have to look long and hard to find anyone who has even six or eight of these matching Gardner press backs!! It will cost only $385 to have this rare and wonderful set shipped to your home, within our normal delivery area.
