3rd Quarter 19th century. Probably New York. This fine gold painted incised, ebonized and delicately inlaid example with classical revival bronze plaques in the manner of Pottier & Stymus, N.Y. The crest with scrolled volutes above the stepped upper case; a round bronze plaque cast with the bust in profile of a classical maiden within the frieze. Flanked by ebonized raised decorative panels with scrolling satin wood inlays on an ebonized molded plinth set back on the main cabinet with turret corners and incurved ends. The central door with inset panel mounted with an oval bronze plaque cast with a cherub in a diaphanous scarf holding a grape cluster set within an ebony half round molded border and framed within delicate anthemion leaf and bellflower vines. The door is flanked by tapered incise decorated pilasters. Each case end with incurved ebonized panels inlaid with decorative urns issuing conforming delicate and graceful floral vines. The credenza raised on a molded plinth. The hinged center door backed with Bird’s Eye maple veneer. The interior fitted with a single original removable shelf. PROVENANCE: From the personal collection of a prominent Stowe, VT entrepreneur. SIZE: 58”W x 17”D x 58” H. Shelf: 46”L x 12”D. CONDITION: Professionally refurbished and French polished. There is a 1 ¼” triangular veneer patch on top edge of proper right turret corner.
