We are pleased to be offering today this wonderful heavily carved tiger sawn oak curved seat armchair that dates from the 1890s in what appears to be the original finish. It has a curved seat that most likely had a leather seat bottom in it at one time and someone has replaced it with the seat you see in the photos. It really should be taken to an upholstery shop to have a new leather seat installed as it would make the chair more attractive, but it is usable as it is. It is in the original finish. Look at the scary face carved on the top crest. The insert panel is carved, and leaves carved throughout. The arms are carved right down to the knuckle. The front of the reverse curve seat and chair base has a shield in the center with incise carved circles on the face of the chair going down into detail claw feet. The back has claw feet, but it is flat on the inside of both back legs. I am not sure if there were carvings there originally or if that was the way it was designed. It is a stout chair that would look stunning reupholstered sitting in an office or hallway. The overall size is 26 inches wide across the arms, 22 inches on the inside of the arms, 23 inches deep, 41 inches high to the chair back, 26 inches high to the arms, 16 inches high to the center of the seat, 20 inches high on the outside of the curve seat.
