SOLD Antique Nightstand, Victorian Marble Top Half Commode
This wonderful antique night stand is a Victorian age solid black walnut heavily carved half-commode. These came through with bedroom sets as a nightstand, but it also held a chamber pot. This particular one is much nicer than usual with a racetrack molded drawer, an intact hand carved berry and nut handle, shell and berry carving in the tombstone shape racetrack paneled door with the original knob. This antique nightstand rests upon a cylinder multi-turn foot with carvings coming down both posts. The white and gray grain marble is cookie corner. This is about as good as they come. We always look for half commodes and we have been fortunate to find many, but they don’t stay in stock for long. This half commode is all solid walnut dating from the 1870s. It is clean original. The overall size is 18 inches wide, 17 inches deep and 31 inches high. When you open the door it has a removable center shelf, which is where they would hide the chamber pot out of the bowl and pitcher set. The molding is all intact. The back of the white and gray grained marble has a few chips from hitting the wall, but you can’t notice it from the front. Shipping is $185 for a driveway delivery in the continental USA.
