This Antique Cylinder Secretary Bookcase Desk dates from the 1880s and maintains its original finish. This desk has so much charm and character! If you’re an antique buff, this is probably a great desk for you. The exterior features all the nicks and dings that come with age and over a hundred years of use. The burl details on the cylinder and desk drawers are a nice contrast agains the medium-stained walnut, and the original handles and keyhole escutcheons add a nice detail to this early Victorian piece. Open the burl cylinder, to expose the interior, featuring cubbies, drawers, and a pull out writing surface with lots of character. There are even little ink blots on one of the cubbies where someone had their ink pot for writing letters while sitting at this desk! The pull out writing surface could probably be relined with new felt, but the current one features a lot of old-timey ink stains, so if you’re a history buff like I am, you might want to keep it as is. There are some other condition issues, mostly minor blemishes but there is a little issue on the side where the case probably hit up against some molding, but we can detail that out for you no problem in our professional restoration shop, if you remind us at the time of sale.

Open the original bubble glass doors to expose the shelf-lined interior, with three adjustable shelves. A crown molded top, lots of burl details, rosette accents dovetail drawers, and so much character, the overall size is 40 inches across and 23 inches deep at the base, 12.5 inches deep at the bookcase top, 30 inches from the floor to the writing surface, and a total of 86 inches high.
