Here it is: Something that I’ve never seen in more than 40 years in the antiques business. It’s a triple beveled glass mirror walnut dressing mirror that dates from around the 1890s era. It is really, really unique. It came from England, and they’ve had some really nice unusual pieces made over the years. This one has a swivel mirror that sits down inside two brackets in the center, and on the left and right sides are what I call hatbox doors, but they are carved compartments with open fretwork on the sides, clamshell carving in the back, a place to put a lamp on the top, and plenty of storage. Then, on the base, there are four handcut raised panel burl walnut dovetail drawers in a drop-center wooden frame, with a big, bold applied bracket base. Someone has put really big roller tracks inside so it rolls really easily, and I’m guessing this was used in a store at one point. On the top is the most unusual part of the piece. On the Victorian metal brackets on both ends, there are dressing mirrors of beveled glass that will flip around completely so it’s closed up. Or, you can flip them around, stand in front, and get a side view, front view or back view of yourself all at once, for that triple mirror effect. Look at the hardware: it’s all original and all intact. The locks are in the drawers, but there is no key, and we don’t guarantee locks to work. It has normal little nicks and dings, but is in overall outstanding condition. Right at the moment we have a matching oversized triple door wardrobe that came out of the same estate. Before you buy one piece thinking the other piece is available, just take a look at the site to make sure they are both still for sale. This cabinet is in its original finish, which is a beautiful dark brown walnut stain, and it makes the burl look unbelievably nice. The looking glasses show just a little bit of age spots here and there, which adds charm and character. The overall size of the case, without the side mirrors, is 48 inches wide, 20 inches deep, and 75 inches high to the middle mirror. The backsplashes are 59 inches high, the side mirrors are 70.5 inches high, and the drop center is 27 inches high. The length of the side mirrors is 54 inches tall, and they are 13 inches wide. When you add them on, they add 32 inches, because of the hardware, so they make the overall width 79 inches wide when they are opened. There is a place on the dresser base where they must have taken one of the side boxes off and scraped up the finish a bit. Someone has tried to fix it, but other than that, this piece is in such nice condition.:
