This antique secretary desk is beautiful and from the Victorian era. Featuring its original finish, burl walnut, slant top, and multiple drawers, this lady's secretary desk that dates from the 1870s to 1880s in original condition. There is some minor burl walnut loss on the base drawers that doesn’t really show up; this antique secretary desk is in the original, as found condition, right out of a Massachusetts home. It has a burl walnut fancy V shape carved top crest, pierce carved center crest, and incise carving on the supports. It has carved molding going down both sides of the lid, which is the highlight of this desk, because it has a big burl oval panel with four big accent corner blocks. Someone had put two brass knobs on the top to open the desk, which don’t belong. The remainder of the hardware seems to be all original except that one of the handles on the bottom drawer is larger than the other five. It has burl walnut accent trim going down both sides. When you open the lid, it reveals a four-drawer burl veneer multi-cubby hole interior with the original old worn writing surface cover. There is a veneer chip on a drawer and typical ink stains throughout. The overall size is 35 inches wide, 20 inches deep, 30 inches high to the writing surface and 70 inches high overall. The width of the drawers are 27 inches wide. The drawers are all picture frame molded. There is some veneer loss on the burl walnut panels. It is a great Victorian desk with charm and character.
