SOLD Victorian Walnut Cylinder Bookcase Secretary Desk
We are pleased to be offering today this wonderful solid black walnut right off the coast of Maine cylinder secretary bookcase desk that dates from the Eastlake era of the 1870s to 1880s. The four drawers are all circular dove tail. It comes with the top crest, which is usually missing. It has a two door bookcase top with two adjustable shelves. The cylinder top has a simplistic cubby hole interior and the pull out writing surface that someone put a red felt one that is usable. The four drawers in the base have the original brass hardware. It is missing the keyhole cover on the bookcase glass door top, which we can put a replacement on if you remind us at the time of the sale. The finish is the old original finish. This has the original patina from 140 years ago. The cylinder roll has an indentation right in the center, which is pretty normal for these type of desks. You can see it in the photo, but it isn’t a big deal as the cylinder roll is usually open anyways. The panel on the left hand side must have been near a heater, because it has a little ripple in it that we will correct prior to shipping. The overall size is 30.5 inches wide, 19 inches deep at the desk section, 10.5 inches deep on the bookcase section, 29.5 inches high to the writing surface and 79 inches high overall. It is a great looking original finish desk that even comes with a key to lock and unlock the drawers and the bookcase top. We do not guarantee the locks to work as they often need to be cleaned. Shipping starts at $285 for a driveway delivery in our normal area which is New England. Please contact us prior to purchase with your zip code to confirm what it would cost you if outside of New England for shipping.
