SOLD Set of Five Formal Mahogany Inlaid Dining Chairs

 We are pleased to be offering this set of solid mahogany dining chairs to you today. Dating from the 1890s to 1920s, these chairs appear to be all solid mahogany with truly inlaid designs, and not a veneer; that means that someone cut out the trim design and placed it into a solid piece of mahogany, which indicates that these are of higher quality. This set consists of four side chairs and one arm chair, and they feature cabriole ball and claw legs, inlaid backs with an inlaid crest rail, flared back leg, solid mahogany skirts, and the arm chair has knuckle arms. They are clearly high quality chairs, but do not seem to be from a specific maker, therefore these could possibly be bench made. "Bench made" means someone, usually a craftsman, made an item of his own design. These chairs have benchmark numbers on them, which contributes to our theory, and they are clearly a very fine quality. The condition is great, as we have professionally restored them--they have been hand stripped, hand sanded, hand glued to ensure they will be sturdy for years to come, hand stained, and finished with multiple coats of hand applied satin sheen lacquer. We have also reupholstered the seats in a light blue crushed velour fabric, which contrasts nicely against the attractive red-brown color of the wood. The armchair measures 21 inches wide, 18.5 inches deep, 39 inches high to the top of the chair, 27.5 inches high to the arm and 19 inches high to the seat. The side chairs are 19.5 inches wide, 17 inches deep, 39 inches high to the top of the chair and 19 inches high to the seat. It is very unusual to find a set of five chairs that are made of solid mahogany with true inlay like these have, and if we had provenance that these are indeed bench made, we would probably be asking quite a bit more for them.
