We are pleased to be offering today this example of turn of the century (1890's) raised panel oak railroad master's / post office master's desk and probably one of only 10 that we have seen over our 48 year career. This desk has raised panel on both pedestals inside out and on the back. It has a rolled top roll that opens with the original key. It reveals a triple shelf interior with a raised panel dove tail drawer underneath and the other side has five raised panel dovetail drawers with three raised panel drawers across the writing surface. In the center there are two sliding doors that reveal a double shelf interior behind. On the right side a roll top door that opens to reveal a file storage area. You can see where the guy sat there for years and rested his feet on one of the shelves and has wore the shelf down so it has a curvature to it, which makes a great story to go with the desk. It has the original finish and gallery top. It has raised panels on the sides and the back which is beautiful and can be left out in the middle of a room. It is pretty much all tiger sawn oak. It does have some minor issues, such as a crack on the side of the gallery, piece of baseboard that came off and can be re-glued. If the buyer so desires they can contact us for a quote to have the desk professionally refinished. We have owned probably over 4,000 roll tops in our business career, but we have only had maybe 10 of these desks. The overall size of this desk is 72 inches wide across the writing surface, the top of the desk is approximately 30 inches deep, the pedestals underneath are approximately 27 inches deep, the drawer pedestals are approximately 17 inches wide, 35 inches wide on the sliding door compartment, 30 inches high on the sliding door, 44 inches tall from the floor to the writing surface. You can either use this as a standing desk or use a bar stool or pub chair. It has the original finish that shows signs of wear. Shipping starts at $425 for a driveway delivery to our normal delivery area. Please contact us prior to purchase to confirm that you are in our normal area.
