SOLD Rare Carved Victorian Oak Kidney Desk

We are pleased to be offering today this scarce Victorian oak beautiful carved all over tiger sawn kidney shape ladies writing desk that dates from the 1880s and is most likely of European origin based on the construction.  The large hand cut wide dove tail drawers, the fact the drawers open only with key and had no hardware, fluer de-lis carving, deep dish and solid oak carved out along the top, pedestals, curved front drawers, reverse curve center drawer and all across the front or back of the desk depending on which side you are on.  We brought it into the shop, scuffed it down with fine sand paper, color stained the lighter areas to match, re-sprayed it and put a brand new piece of felt on top.  We found a key that fits into the key hole, but it does not work the locks.  I am sure you could find a locksmith that may be able to make a key, but the locks should be taken out and lubricated and cleaned.  The drawers never had handles and have only used a key to open them.    The overall size is 48 inches wide, 22 to 24 inches deep depending on where you measure from and  30 inches high. Between the pedestals it is 17 inches wide and 23 inches high opening space for a chair. It has four drawers that are all curved with big wide hand cut dove tails on both sides of the desk with oak as a secondary wood.  The more I look at this that I realize Paine used to import high quality European oak and this is likely something they sold as I had a dining room set with similar carving that was sold by Paine.   The center has a reverse curve drawer.  When it came out of the estate they left the original price tag on the inside.  The tag reads ELOT #52012 $5,000.00 and Carved Desk was written underneath.  We are asking just a bit less (LOL) and it is all ready to go into the home.  Please look at the many pictures to see the tremendous cabinetwork that went into this stunning piece.  I haven’t seen this model in a long time and it is hard to find high end oak like this as collectors hang on to them.  This is a great investment piece with bragging rights.  Shipping starts at $345 for a driveway delivery in our normal area which is New England.  Please contact us prior to purchase with your zip code to confirm what it would cost you if outside of New England for shipping.
