SOLD R.H. Horner Full Wing Griffin Writing Desk

We are pleased to be offering today this beautiful mahogany better than average carved all over writing desk that dates from the 1880s in original condition.  It was made by the R.J. Horner Company that was well known for this look of the winged griffins and the north wind faces on the carved drawers.  This is a great looking example of their furniture in original condition.  The full wing griffins are approximately 23 inches high on each corner and they are approximately 14 inches deep.  It has dove tail drawers on each side with the other side appears to be another drawer, but the drawers go all the way across.  The carved skirt is all fleur-de-lis and is approximately 4.5 inches wide.  The top has a 5 inch carved border that goes around the ogee bevel edge white a flat surface in the center.  The overall size is approximately 57 inches wide, 36 inches deep and 30.5 inches high.  It is all ribbon mahogany, carved all over, original finish and it is in the original condition with minor rub marks here and there.  It appears someone used some tape on the writing surface  and it took off some of the finish.   We will spray it out and do it over for the buyer if they so desire at the time of checkout.  The edge of the ogee bevel routed top has minor nicks here and there.  The base griffins have  a few small cracks in the wings, which is normal and will detail out prior to shipping.   Shipping starts at $425 for a driveway delivery in our normal area which is New England.  Please contact us prior to purchase with your zip code to confirm what it would cost you if outside of New England for shipping.
