Exceptional Pottier & Stymus six piece Renaissance Revival carved Walnut Parlor suite dating from the 1870-1880's. This outstanding set consists of a settee, a pair of open armchairs, a pair of side chairs and a boudoir chair.  All upholstered in tufted floral damask.  All but the boudoir chair are designed with a floral inlaid medallion centered within the crest typical of the Pottier & Stymus workshops.  The foliate carvings, delicate turnings, inlays and fine rosewood and walnut polished wood surfaces are emblematic of the fine New York high style workmanship of the 1860’s and 70’s. The New York City firm of Pottier and Stymus was one of the premier cabinetmaking firms of the late nineteenth century in the United States.  The firm produced interiors for private and commercial clients both here and abroad, but since only a few objects are clearly marked, identifying its furniture is difficult.  A similar seven piece parlor set sold in 2019 at auction for $10,000 in Pittsfield, MA. SIZE: Sofa: 42-5/8" h x 72" w x 32" d. Seat height of sofa is 17". 3 side chairs: 2 measure 36" h x 22" w x 24" d. Seat height 16". Other: 30" h x 22" w x 25" d. Seat height 16". 2 armchairs: 39-1/2" h x 30-5/8" w x 31-3/4" d. Seat height 17-3/4". CONDITION: One medallion is absent. Some losses to the turnings on the legs. Minimal and minor wear throughout commensurate with age.  Shipping for the set in New England would be $485.00 and outside New England would be more, so email us your zip code and we will quote for you.
