We are pleased to be offering today this solid tiger sawn oak and straight grain oak raised panel desk that dates from the 1890s in beautiful condition. This came out of a local home on coastal Maine. The finish was pretty straight on it, but faded in a few areas so we refurbished it. When we refurbish an antique what we do is hand sand the entire desk to take the old finish off, re-stain when needed and re-spray multiple coats of satin sheen lacquer. This leaves the old patina with the age marks intact and it has a nice warm mellow glow. It is not refinished as it shows the minor color differences and normal nicks and dings. The back, which I think is the most beautiful part of the desk, has 11 raised panels. There are 7 on each side on the outside and it is even raised panel on the inside of the four drawer columns. The tambour roll is all good and tight. There are six small drawers with wooden oak knobs in the interior with two larger drawers underneath and the pencil trays. One of the large drawers were missing the back, but we replaced it. It has the letter holders on the sides. It even has the working lock. I am going to assume this desk is a Standard which is comparable to Derby based on the better than average cubby hole interior and quality woods used. The left hand column has four dove tail drawers with a pull out writing surface, then a center drawer and the right hand column has two small dove tail drawers with a file cabinet drawer underneath. The overall size of the desk is 50 inches wide, 32 inches deep, 30 inches high to the writing surface and 50 inches high to the top of the desk. The tambour roll section is 20 inches tall. In between the columns is 21 inches wide and 24 inches high for chair space. Shipping starts at $425 for a driveway delivery in our normal area which is New England. Please contact us prior to purchase with your zip code to confirm what it would cost you if outside of New England for shipping.
