We are pleased to be offering this Gothic Revival Carved Walnut Desk to you today. Circa 1860, this desk is a conversion from an original parlor organ. The case with three upper sections; each with a recessed pierce carved trellis work panel, now with fabric backing. The central panel originally designed to hold sheet music now hinged to swing upwards, opening to stationery holders above a tray fitted for pens and inkwells. Above this upper section is a slopping panel with raised elements which slide back into the case exposing the keyboard well. It is fitted with four small drawers and open stationery shelves above a pullout leather lined slide designed as a writing surface which now rests on the open apron. This section is supported by ornamental carved pilasters, which are part of the original case and center a pair of recessed cupboard doors carved with dense floral vinery within a border of carved guilloches. It is framed by engaged fluted pilasters. The case sides are carved with heavy gothic reeded moldings framing burl walnut raised decorative panels beneath the keystone. The case on a molded plinth. The front retains the original painted nameplate: “A.B. CHASE ORGAN CO. NORWALK-OHIO”. SIZE: 50” w x 24” d x 55-1/2” h. CONDITION: The organ case has been professionally converted to its now intended use, perhaps 25 years ago based on the construction and parts used in the conversion process. The desk has been professionally repolished and esthetically restored to “as new” condition with rich patina.
