We are pleased to be offering today this nice looking early Victorian burl walnut decorated cylinder secretary bookcase desk that dates from the 1870s. Look at the burl all over this desk- crown top, base, dove tail drawers, cylinders and all over. I am assuming the crest is not the original, even though it blends in perfectly, as it is taller than normal. The overall size is 47 inches wide, 23 inches deep a the writing surface, 13 inches deep at the bookcase section, 95.5 inches high to the flat surface of the top, 108 inches tall with the crest on top. There is a chip below the right hand glass door where the hinge is. It has hand cut dove tail drawers with ebonized tear drop pulls. It has carvings coming down both sides. The cylinder has rosette buttons, burl trim wings, burl across the trim and a double panel burl walnut cylinder. When the cylinder is open, it exposes a multi-drawer interior with a pull out writing surface displaying the green felt. The finish is a bit dry and it could use a good oiling. The glass doors are quite tall being 43 inches high. It comes with four adjustable shelves to hold a multitude of items on top. It is a beautiful Victorian piece to add to your home. There is the normal finish wear from age. It is a high quality better than average desk. Shipping starts at $425 for a driveway delivery in our normal New England delivery area.
