This antique Walnut file cabinet dates from the Victorian era 1880s and is it is a pretty special piece if you ask us! The case itself is in beautiful antique condition, and has a lot of really nice aging across the top and sides. It has some chipping on the beveled edge and along the sides of the case, and a pretty big chip on the back of the cabinet, but this only adds character to this classic antique.
Featuring original finish, the original brass drawer tags and black painted brass handles have aged nicely with worn marks; you can see people definitely used this file cabinet! It has so much character. Includes the original brass tag at the top, which reads “Made by Office Specialty Manufacturing Company in Rochester, New York, USA.”
What’s really unique about this antique file cabinet is what is inside. Underneath the drawers is a two-colored breadboard pattern draw bottom of walnut and maple. The drawers seem to slide in and out nicely and feature old file folders inside with a spring mechanism on the top to keep the files in place. These are really rare and special, the top of some of the the file folders say Brown Lexicon System of Indexing and Filing Letters, then it goes on to give more information - the file folders say they were made in Chicago Illinois and sold by HC Hodgens Co in New York. You don’t find things like that very often still intact in these drawers - condition of the files varies from drawer to drawer. These are just a really neat feature; we’re excited to be offering it to you.
The file cabinet measures 28 inches across the front, 17 1/2 inches deep, and 35 inches tall. The drawers measure 11 1/2” across x 3.75” high x 12” long.
