We are pleased to be offering today this mahogany slant top ox bow front ball and claw governor Winthrop secretary desk that dates from the 1940s in house condition made by the Maddox Desk Company. House condition means that it came right out of a home. It came from a home on the south shore of Massachusetts. It shows minor wear marks here and there. It has a breadboard writing lid that opens to expose a multi-cubby hole interior with raised panel drawer fronts on the interior. It is missing one knob on the drawers on the interior. It has a center carved door and two cleverly hidden compartments behind the pillars. The supports pull out to support the lid when opened. The interior has a few wear marks, which is normal for this type of desk. It has the grill work on the top. There are a couple pieces of trim missing on the grillwork on the top that we will detail out prior to shipping. The bookcase top opens to reveal a dual shelf interior. The four drawers below are dove tail, ox bow and retains the Chippendale metal hardware. The desk is finished with ball and claw feet. The finish is a brown mahogany stain finish. The desk is 32 inches wide, 18 inches deep, 31 inches high to the writing surface, and 81 inches high overall. It has a crown molded top with a flame finial center piece on the crest. Shipping starts at $375 for a driveway delivery in our normal New England delivery area.
