This beautiful antique Secretary desk features an ox bow front, and ball and claw foot. This mahogany secretary bookcase desk dates from the 1940s, and was made by the Maddox Furniture Company. It has the genuine mahogany blue label on the inside of the drawer, and the finish is gorgeous. We did redo the writing surface as they are always scratched up from normal usage. We color matched and re-sprayed it in the dark reddish brown mahogany stain. It has the four serpentine drawers on the base with the original Chippendale style hardware. All four drawers have locks, which indicates that this is a higher quality model. Instead of having flat plywood grillwork on top, it has thick mahogany wood again another sign of high quality. This desk comes with the original key, which is almost unheard of now. It is a beautiful desk in a nice finish. The overall size is 34 inches wide, 19 inches deep, and 84 inches high. When you open the solid mahogany writing lid, the desk support lids automatically come out to support the lid. Behind the lid, is a multi-cubby hole interior with a carved door with the cleverly disguised hidden compartments behind the columns on each side of the carved door. I did notice on the center flame finial on top of the crown molded top there is a chip of wood that we can fix prior to shipping if you remind us at the time of the sale.
