SOLD Antique Mahogany Chippendale Carved Game Card Table
This beautiful table is a very dark reddish-brown mahogany Chippendale flip top card/game table that dates from the 1930s or ‘40s, and just came in on a container from England. In its original finish, the only thing we’ve done is re-spray the exposed top to bring out the colors of the fine grains of the wood used in its construction. The game table works like this: when closed, it is a demi-lune shape with four cabriole legs, three in the back, one in the front. It can be used as a demi-lune table, against a sofa or a wall. If you want to use it as a display piece, you can flip the cover up against a wall and place on it a lamp or vase. It can also be used as a game table. When the center back leg is pulled out, it exposes a handcut dovetail divided drawer that holds card and accessories, and supports the top when it’s opened. When closed, the table is 33 inches across, 16.5 inches deep, and 30.75 inches tall. When the back leg is pulled out, it becomes 33.75 x 33 x 29.75. It also shows the inside of the lid has a 2-inch wide mahogany border around the original old green felt top, which shows some minor water rings, but no major rips or tears, making it perfectly usable. The top itself has a carved edge, and the finish is a dark reddish brown.
