SOLD Antique Empire Dining Room Chairs - Set of 8

We're happy to be able to offer this set of antique dining room chairs from the Empire period. Dating from the 1860s, we have sold innumerable sets empire dining chairs like these over the years, and we never get tired of it, as they are some of the prettiest dining chairs you could own. This set appears to be in very good original condition with minor nicks and dings. It’s rare to get a set of eight matching empire chairs, and these look great, with a beautiful selection of flame mahogany used throughout.

Featuring a beautiful, rich, reddish brown mahogany stain, one chair is slightly lighter than the others and most likely sat next to a window and faded over the years. Not a big deal, but we like to mention it. They have been upholstered in beautiful needlepoint, with a rich dark blue background and complementary colorful floral arrangements across all the chairs. These (seats) most likely were changed out over the years, but they're really great in excellent condition. The backs of the chairs have the flame mahogany patterning on them, and an attractive, shapely scalloped chair crest with a cut out detail and shapely cut out center splat. They have a one piece splayed back leg, saber style front leg, and the roll flame mahogany skirt on the seat.

After my 50+ years in this business, it still amazes me when I find a set of eight handmade period empire chairs in this condition. What talented cabinet makers they were back then.

Overall the condition of these 160 year old chairs is fantastic, with only the common nicks and dings that you would see on a set of chairs from the 1860s, but nothing that detracts from the absolute splendor of this set of eight Antique Flame Mahogany Dining Room Chairs; measuring 18 inches across the seat, 15 1/2 inches deep, 32 inches tall, and 18.5 inches to the top of the seat.
