A striking pair of circa 1890 Victorian oak chairs featuring exceptionally detailed carved backs, barley-twist front legs, and recently updated upholstery. These chairs have a tremendous amount of decorative carving for their size and are being sold together as a pair.

The highlight is the elaborate carved crest on each chair. Carved eagles face outward from either side of the crest, surrounding a central winged motif with scrolling foliage and additional floral carving. The carving continues down the back with fluted details and textured geometric accents.

Each chair has an upholstered back panel and generously padded seat, both finished in an attractive flame-stitch patterned fabric in shades of blue, gold, cream, and brown. The upholstery complements the dark oak beautifully while giving the chairs a fresh, usable appearance.

The bases feature substantial barley-twist front legs ending in carved feet, with additional carved block details above and below the twists. Altogether, these are wonderfully decorative Victorian chairs that would work equally well as occasional chairs, desk or vanity chairs, or as an accent pair in a bedroom, library, entryway, or living room.

Condition

The chairs have been refinished in a dark oak stain and were reupholstered within the last few years in a flame-stitch patterned fabric. The upholstery remains in great condition.

The chairs are sturdy and ready for use, with minor wear consistent with their age.
