We are pleased to be offering today this solid black walnut civil war era medallion back carved sofa that dates from the civil war era of the 1860's-1870's. This is a beautiful style coming off the Empire transitional look into the Victorian era. It has an oval medallion on the back, carved leaves on both sides, and detailed carving on the forearms which run right down into the cut out feet. Original casters support the solid, tight frame on this unique sofa. The overall condition is good with the fabric being an old green velour that shows some discoloration but is very usable. The only thing that we can find wrong with this sofa is right along the medallion back on the center where it was glued together , It shows some lamination seams but is really no big deal, it is all tight and sturdy. The overall size is 69 inches wide across the outside of the arms, 48 inches wide on the inside, from the back to the front is approximately 26 inches deep, and the height of the center is 35 inches. The height of the seat is 18 inches. This sofa is a really nice Civil War era piece of furniture for a reasonable price that will add character to your home.
