This spectacular antique carved Mahogany sideboard by Horner dates from the 1890s. This remarkable Horner piece combines dramatic carvings, mythological figures, and fine craftsmanship—an extraordinary example of late Victorian design.
The upper section features a full carved mirror back framed by elaborate ornamentation. A pierced gallery sits at the top, centered by winged cherubs holding a shield and flanked by scrolling vinery. Carved posts display full-figure nude women draped with tunics, while the crest includes an open shelf supported by nude female figures adorned with floral garlands at the waist, all set on S-scrolled pedestals.
The case is equally impressive, with a leaf-carved molded edge over two aligned drawers fitted with wolf’s head pulls surrounded by scrolling vinery. Below are two cabinet doors, each deeply carved with an underwater scene of a sea dragon ridden by a cherub-like figure with a trident, framed by foliate borders. The side posts feature full female figures above square, tapered columns, all raised on a molded base with bold S-scrolled carved feet.
