This beautiful library table features a fantastic burl walnut with incised carvings. This Victorian ladies writing desk dates from the 1870s, and It has burl walnut on the top, skirts, drawer and even on the cross stretchers and legs. it came right out of a home where they replaced the felt and we have to be honest, they didn’t do a great job. The felt should be done over, but even though it doesn’t look amazing, it is all good and usable. The library table itself has a great look to it. There is a very unusual recessed 45-degree angle corner. The base has a large turn finial on top and bottom that is joined together with a cross stretcher that is incise carved and burl walnut trim on both sides. It has burl walnut trims on the legs, tapered turn spindles that join the legs together and it is a nice item. It has a drawer that is divided for where the pens and ink used to go. Someone put a liner down to prevent marking on the wood on the drawer bottoms. The overall size is 36 inches wide, 22 inches deep and 30.5 inches high. The height for where your legs go is 25.5 inches high and 23 inches wide to allow a lady sitting space to write out bills or do paperwork. Someone replaced the escutcheon on the drawer with an oval brass, which isn’t correct, but wanted to mention it. This table would look gorgeous with a leather top and the replaced keyhole cover. There are a few small chips in the burl veneer, which is normal for the age. Shipping starts at $225 for a driveway delivery in our normal New England delivery area.
