Exceptional circa 1890 Victorian tiger oak china cabinet in the Horner style, featuring a dramatic serpentine form, extensive hand-carved decoration, curved glass, a full mirrored interior, and large carved claw feet.

This is a particularly impressive Victorian display cabinet. Rather than the more common flat-front construction, the entire case has a flowing serpentine profile. All three primary glass panels follow the serpentine shape of the cabinet, creating a beautiful panoramic display and allowing the contents to be viewed from multiple angles. The serpentine glass panels are in excellent condition.

The interior features a full mirrored back and four plate-glass shelves approximately 16” deep, offering substantial display space for china, crystal, art glass, collectibles, or other treasured pieces. The combination of serpentine glass, glass shelving, and mirrored backing gives the interior tremendous depth and light.

The carving is especially noteworthy. A heavily carved crown wraps around the upper portion of the cabinet with deep floral, foliate, and scrolling decoration. The front columns feature elaborate carved figural details above cascading leaf carving, giving the cabinet the bold architectural quality associated with high-style late Victorian furniture.

The cabinet stands on four substantial carved claw feet, completing the dramatic design. Beautiful tiger oak grain remains visible throughout beneath the original dark oak finish.

Condition

Overall condition is very good, particularly for a cabinet dating to approximately 1890. It retains its original dark oak finish with minor nicks, dings, scratches, finish wear, and other age-appropriate signs of use.

The serpentine glass panels are in excellent condition. There are a couple of small chips along the edge of one glass shelf. The mirrored back has a small area of silver loss near the top of one mirror panel, consistent with the age of the original mirror.

No key is included with this cabinet. The lock is sold as-is and its functionality is not guaranteed. Replacement antique-style keys can often be sourced or fitted by a locksmith if desired.

Please review all photographs closely, particularly the glass shelving, mirrored back, serpentine glass panels, carved crown, figural carving, claw feet, and original finish, as they form an important part of the condition description.
