A remarkable circa 1870 Victorian solid walnut extension banquet table capable of expanding from a compact 48-inch table to an impressive dining or banquet table more than 11 feet long. This is an especially versatile piece of antique Victorian dining furniture, offering the proportions and presence of a large formal dining table while being able to close down dramatically when the additional length is not needed.

The table is constructed in solid walnut and retains its original finish. A substantial multi-sided center column is supported by beautifully shaped and carved Victorian legs terminating in casters. The heavy sculptural base, rich walnut color, and generous proportions are wonderful examples of early Victorian craftsmanship.

The extension mechanism allows the table to open very easily and is supported by a substantial three-piece base as it expands. The included leaves allow the table to extend to approximately 9 feet 1 inch in length. The table itself is capable of opening to approximately 11 feet 10 inches, making this an unusually large antique extension dining table.

Condition

The table is in very good overall antique condition and retains its original finish. There are minor nicks, dings, scratches, finish variations, and other signs of age and use consistent with an approximately 150-year-old piece of furniture. No major condition issues were noted.

The extension mechanism allows the table to open easily, and the substantial base provides support as the table expands. The original finish has a rich, warm appearance and displays the character expected of an authentic Victorian walnut table.
