We are pleased to be offering this Victorian Carved Bookcase to you today. This piece came out of a local central Maine home; I first saw this bookcase back in the early 1970s -- my dad, who has since passed, used to buy a lot of antiques from this estate. The son of the estate owner called and said that it would only be fitting for a Julia to purchase the last antique in their house. I remember I was 13 or 14 years old, and my dad bought three large China closets out of this Pittsfield, Maine estate. It was snowing that day, and being in this house again brought back a lot memories. But enough nostalgia. The bookcase we are selling here is in all-original condition and is pristine given the fact it dates from the 1870-1880s. It has burl walnut accent trims, carved center blocks, corner blocks, dovetail and molded drawers, applied bracket base and barley twist posts going down both sides. It even has the original key. It is 54 inches wide, 17 inches deep and 74 inches high overall. When you open the doors featuring the original wavy glass, it reveals a shelf space that is 26 inches wide by 9 inches deep. There are 3 adjustable shelves on both sides. The overall condition is nice original. It has the normal nicks and dings from age. Look at the beautiful patina and all the other accents. Shipping starts at $395 for a driveway delivery in our normal New England delivery area. Outside the normal area will incur additional delivery charges.
