This handsome Victorian half commode dates to the 1880s and features a beautiful burl walnut panel on the drawer and cabinet door, a crisp white and gray marble top, and all the right elements of late 19th-century craftsmanship.
It measures 18.5 inches wide, 17.5 inches deep, and 31.5 inches tall overall. The dovetailed drawer measures approximately 13 inches wide, 11.5 inches deep, and 4 inches tall. The cabinet interior measures 16 inches wide by 14 inches deep and 17 inches tall, divided by a removable interior shelf that sits 9 inches off the base of the cabinet.
The top drawer is framed with applied molding and features a beautiful turned brass knob with decorative embossed backplate. The craftsmanship is excellent, with hand-cut dovetails that are especially well-executed. Beneath the drawer, a paneled cabinet door is fitted with a molded surround and a rich burl walnut insert, matching the drawer detail. Inside the cabinet, a two-tier interior provides flexible storage for bedroom or hallway essentials.
The plinth-style base has softly rounded corners and a clean, molded edge, lending the piece a grounded, architectural presence. The white marble top has gently rounded corners and a beveled edge, with soft gray veining throughout.

Condition:
This piece is in very good antique condition overall, with minor imperfections consistent with age:
• Some crazing is visible in the burl walnut panels on the drawer and door.
• A small piece of molding is missing from the cabinet base; we will have this professionally restored for you at no extra charge—just remind us at the time of purchase.
• There’s a small dent or chip in the wood underneath the marble top, which is not visible unless the top is removed.
• Some light finish wear is visible where the drawer pull has made contact over time.
• There’s a small paint or stain splatter on the base, which does not detract from its appearance.
• The marble top shows minor discoloration, faint scratches, and a few dings, all consistent with typical wear for a piece over 140 years old.
Despite these minor age-related flaws, this commode is solid, attractive, and full of Victorian character. The burl walnut panels are particularly striking, and the construction is tight and sound throughout.
This would make a wonderful nightstand, hallway cabinet, or accent piece in any room where you’d like to add warmth, history, and high-quality Victorian charm.
