This elegant Victorian library table dates from the 1880s and is constructed in walnut with gorgeous burl accents throughout. It’s a particularly handsome example of the era’s fine craftsmanship, featuring raised panels, decorated cross-stretcher, and beautifully shaped legs. Whether used as a writing table, library centerpiece, or a statement accent, this piece is both functional and decorative.

Features:
• Rich Burl Walnut Accents
Burl walnut detailing appears throughout: on the tabletop, skirt, back panels, drawer front, and even along the carved legs and cross-stretcher base. These highly figured accents add warmth, movement, and richness to the overall visual impact.
• Architectural Base with Sculptural Legs
The table is supported by four deeply curved legs that create a strong, sculptural silhouette. Each leg ends in a curled scroll foot with a circular carved medallion at the base. The feet rest on original period casters for easy movement.
• Shaped Cross-Stretcher with Turned Center
The legs are connected by a shaped stretcher system with incised carvings, capped by a turned vertical column and a delicate drop finial. At the junctions where the stretcher meets the legs, carved square blocks feature “X” incised carving for added Victorian flair.
• Spacious Single Drawer
The large drawer spans 32 inches wide and is divided into three compartments:
• Left: 18” deep
• Right: Two compartments, approx. 7” and 10” deep
• Drawer Height: 2½”
The drawer is veneered in burl walnut and framed, with a remaining brass keyhole escutcheon (key not included). The drawer glides smoothly and shows hand-cut dovetails.
• Raised Panels & Decorative Carving
On each side, the table features incised carvings, framed raised panels, and more burl walnut insets—even on the inside edges of the legs and along the lower stretcher. This level of detail is consistent with high-end Victorian workmanship.
• Casters
All four scroll feet retain their original casters, allowing for mobility without sacrificing stability.

Dimensions:
• Width: 42 inches
• Depth: 24 inches
• Height: 30 inches

Condition:

This table is structurally solid and ready for use. It shows honest age and wear consistent with its 140+ years, including:
• Some bubbling and crazing in the burl veneer on the tabletop, as shown
• Small thumbnail-size chip in the veneer on the top
• A crack in the interior divider of the drawer
• Small cracks in the stretcher arms that are seemingly cosmetic, not structural
• Minor nicks, dings, and scuffs as expected for its age
• Green felt surface is a later replacement and shows a stain in the bottom left corner

The table remains sturdy, stable, and full of character. If you love beautiful furniture with history, this is an excellent candidate to add to your home.
