SOLD Unusual Victorian File Cabinet Miniature Chest – Must See
We are pleased to be offering today this most unusual piece that I am not sure if it is a hat chest or a file cabinet. It has four drawers that are 11 inches wide, 12 inches deep and 8.5 inches high. The large drawer underneath is 24 inches wide by 9 inches high. It is definitely Eastlake. It has hand cut dove tail, all solid black walnut, multi-turn dainty spindle gallery in the back, all five drawers have key holes and four of the drawers has locks but no key. One lock is missing on one of the smaller drawers. It has the original Eastlake hardware that is engraved and matching the key hole covers. It has Eastlake influence, but Victorian dove tail. I think it was a custom made piece. It has a multi-bevel edge top with a 3 inch dainty spindle gallery. I am dating it around the 1880s. The overall size is 30 inches wide, 15 inches deep, 36 inches high to the case and 38.5 inches high to the top of the gallery. It is in the original finish. One spindle was missing in the gallery, but we replaced it and it is hard to tell which one it was. If you know exactly what this is, then please let me know what it was used for.
