We are pleased to be offering today this beautiful mahogany governor Winthrop four drawer ox bow serpentine front ball and claw slant top desk that dates from the 1930s to 1940s era.  It was made by the Maddox Furniture Company well known for their high quality and stylish goods.  Someone came by and stole the knobs off the interior and we replaced them with the same style solid brass knob that was originally on it.  The desk have four dove tail drawers and has the genuine mahogany association label on the inside with the company 134, which was a Maddox number.  The finish is the original dark reddish mahogany stain finish.  There is a small crack on the right corner of the breadboard lid.  You can see where it came down and made a mark on the support, because as you open the desk up, the desk supports come out to support the lid and reveal a multi cubby hole drawer interior with two clever hidden drawer behind the pillar posts.  We had one of these desks in our house when I was a young lad and I never knew it was a drawer.  My dad used to hide things in there he didn’t want us kids to see and it worked well.  The inside of the desk will normally be sanded, stained and re-sprayed, but we have not done it on this one.  If the buyer so desires, we will do it for no additional charge.  The desk has the original Chippendale style on the front.  The overall size is 36 inches wide, 22 inches deep and 42 inches high.  It does not have a key, but we will look to see if we may have one that will work by chance.  Shipping estimates starts at $295.00-$325.00 for a driveway delivery in our normal area which is New England. We can assist you in setting up shipping if needed, you would pay the shipping company direct.  Please contact us prior to purchase with your zip code to confirm what it would cost you if outside of New England for shipping.
