SOLD Antique Rare and Scarce Victorian Drop Leaf Table by Cutler of New York
Dating from the 1880s era, this is a dainty Victorian incise carved gold trimmed leather top oval gateleg drop-leaf table, made and sold by the Cutler Furniture Company, well-known because they used to make really high-end roll-top desks. I’ve had this particular model half a dozen times in my life, but I’ve never had one quite as nice as this particular one. It has a tag reading “Manufactured by A. Cutler and Son of Buffalo, NY, Table Patented” with a patent date of 1876. This unusual table has notch carving on both ends, with drawers that are blind dovetail. It also has tapered, fluted legs that criss-cross and hold up the supports of the table when it’s open. It’s in all original finish with a dark walnut stain and most of the gold incise still intact. Filled with originality and pretty much untouched, this is a terrific investment. The overall size is 36 inches round, when opened, and 29.5 inches tall. When closed, it becomes 13 inches across. It’s a very fragile table, but is in very nice condition. It has all its original components, including the original stamp on both ends. It is dainty, classy, and very nice. There are a few stains in the silver trim on the green leather top, and a few scratches in the leather, but it is really, really nice.
